The shade is not a single piece of tinted glass. It is two layers sitting one inside the other in the same colour family, so where they overlap the tone deepens and where they do not it lightens. The result is a gradient through the cap rather than a flat wash, and it is the reason the shade looks like an object even before you switch it on.
Double glassIt is small, and that is the point
At 8.5 in wide and 6.1 in high this is a small piece, and it takes a 3 W bulb. That makes it an atmosphere light: a soft glow beside a bed, a warm marker along a hallway, a corner of a reading nook lifted out of the dark. It will not light a room and it is not meant to. Two or three of them along a wall does more than one bright fixture ever would.
