The antique-brass finish is sealed and stable under normal indoor conditions, so it holds its warm tone with only very subtle deepening over years rather than continuing to oxidise. Dust the brass with a soft dry cloth, and wipe the opal glass with mild glass cleaner. Frosted or globe-style bulbs read best; a clear filament bulb can show too sharply behind the opal glass, and a cool-white bulb fights the warm brass.

- A wall outlet boxThis is a hardwired sconce that fits a standard single-gang wall box, so it replaces a wall light rather than plugging in.
It dims with a dimmable E12 LED bulb and a compatible TRIAC dimmer, though not all E12 LEDs are dimmable, so check the bulb specs. It runs on universal AC 110 to 240V and is for indoor use. A licensed electrician is recommended; turn the power off at the breaker before starting.
